The Maryland Green Party and the Baltimore City Green Party initiated an organizing effort that succeeded in pushing the Maryland State Board of Elections to recognize electronic signatures on ballot access petitions for the first time in Maryland history! This is a significant win for grassroots democracy in our state!
Unfortunately, the step by itself is insufficient. There is simply no substitute for the collecting signatures at mass events and public places which are still not possible due to physical distancing and Governor Hogan's stay-at-home order. Hogan has not yet provided much needed relief to parties, independent candidates, and charter amendment ballot initiative organizers by reducing the total number of signatures needed to be on the November ballot.
We will continue to push Hogan until he joins governors around the country who have reduced the number of petition signatures needed.
